June 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of Pittwater Place, which first opened its doors in 2004. Designed to cater to the everyday needs of the Northern Beaches community, the centre has always offered a diverse range of retail and service options.
To celebrate, join us as we take a nostalgic look back at Pittwater Place and the Mona Vale area
A Flashback in Time
Rewind to 1905, when Mona Vale was just beginning to take shape. The area was home to an established brickyard, the Rocklily Hotel, and Mr. Duffy's Cottage & Garden. Real estate marketing was starting to gain momentum, and where Pittwater Place now stands, there was once a public school and a local police station.
Native fauna filled the land, while dirt roads, timber fencing, signage, and shacks stood strong. Here's a snippet of the surroundings from the National Library of Australia.
Early Beginnings
Pittwater Place was built in the heart of Mona Vale, making it easily accessible to nearby residents and neighboring suburbs. The centre's first stage of development was approximately 50% of its current size, featuring two exterior car parks.
As the area and population grew, the centre expanded to meet the community's needs, incorporating an undercover and rooftop car park, Coles Supermarket, and Harris Farm Markets.
Activities and Festivities
Connecting and celebrating with the Northern Beaches community has always been a joy. From school holiday entertainment to cheerful tunes, reindeer, and more, the centre has seen its fair share of fun. But the biggest star of all was Pelican Pete.
Pelican Pete once migrated to Mona Vale, taking residence at Pittwater Place for several seasons. Pete's cheery nature, energetic dance moves, and charismatic smile won the hearts of many and created memorable moments.
Love Local
Pittwater Place has always been a local hub for the everyday needs of the community. Our friendly retailers continue to champion community and service by providing locals with quality products, produce, and services. With the support of local businesses and local legends, we extend our gratitude to the Northern Beaches community for their ongoing support.
Thank you for the past 20 years and the years to come!
